Hundreds of Democratic Neighborhood Leaders to go Door-to-Door

Congressional Pick-ups in 1^st and 6^th Districts Emphasized

Annapolis, MD – Almost 500 volunteers – Maryland’s Democratic Neighborhood Leaders - begin talking and listening to their neighbors this weekend for the Spring ‘08 kick-off of the Maryland Democratic Party’s ground game for victory in 2008. Spring into Action will match our unprecedented Democratic enthusiasm with a grassroots organization never before attempted by any political party in Maryland. This weekend, over 10,000 voters will be contacted face-to-face at their homes and surveyed on the issues. They’ll also be invited to get more involved in the party’s ever-growing grassroots organization.

“This is just the beginning of an unprecedented volunteer-based ground game that grows larger day-by-day, neighborhood by neighborhood,” said Quincey Gamble, Executive Director of the Maryland Democratic Party. “We’re giving thousands of energized Maryland Democrats an organization to help them take back the White House and put two more congressional seats in the ‘D’ column from Maryland.”

In those Maryland Congressional Districts where Republicans have either rejected their incumbent or are stuck with entrenched and ineffective representation, Democratic energy is particularly high. So, a large number of the Democratic Neighborhood Leaders hitting the streets this weekend will be talking to friends and neighbors where the Maryland Democratic Party expects to pick-up two congressional seats from Republicans.

These Democratic Neighborhood Leaders understand that State’s Attorney Frank Kratovil in Maryland’s 1^st District and Mayor Jennifer Dougherty in Maryland’s 6^th District can and will win their respective races in November with a great ground game. Recent Democratic victories in once solid “red” congressional districts have shocked the body politic across America.

“If former Republican House Speaker Denny Hastert can be replaced by a Democrat in Illinois, so can Roscoe Bartlett in Western Maryland,” said Gamble. “If right-winger Tom Delay can be replaced by a Democrat in Texas, right-winger Andy Harris doesn’t stand a chance in Maryland’s 1^st District.”

“Frank Kratovil and Jennifer Dougherty will be a key focus of our ground game that gets our voters to the polls on Election Day. That begins this weekend and our goals are well within grasp,” said Gamble. “These volunteers are putting their time and energy into winning a better future for Maryland and America. From here we will grow this effort to ensure every one of our Democratic candidates – incumbent and challengers alike – are sent to Washington.”
