Growing Approval for Protecting Middle Class Families and Maryland’s Future

Gonzales Poll Shows More People Agree with O’Malley/Brown Approach

Annapolis, MD - Maryland voters are acknowledging the hard work and difficult decisions made by the O’Malley/Brown Administration to correct Maryland’s long-term fiscal crisis and protect Maryland’s future in tough economic times. Poll numbers just released by Gonzales Research show a substantial increase in job approval from a time when difficult decisions were made and families were feeling the dire effects of a stumbling national economy, the housing crisis and rising gas prices.

“Marylanders get it. Governor Martin O’Malley is working hard to improve our state and keep us on the path of progress,” says Michael Cryor, Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party. “Governor O’Malley’s approach to solving long-term fiscal issues is the steady hand we’ve needed for a greater future. We have more economic bumps in the road ahead but people agree that we must protect education, health care, transportation, economic development and keep college affordable. Governor O’Malley has kept those promises and Marylanders – especially in hard times - agree with this approach.”

According to the latest Gonzales Research Poll Governor O’Malley’s job approval ratings have jumped a dramatic 8 points – with an even more dramatic drop in those who disagree - in just six months. Marylanders know Gov. O’Malley’s focus on the state’s fiscal issues is particularly important at a time when the effects of the latest “Bush” economic failures continue to impact the pocketbooks of Maryland families.

“Marylander’s understand we have more challenges before us and we expect smart, long term solutions that work,” adds Cryor. “Governor O’Malley’s budget cuts and revenue increases are protecting Maryland’s middle class families and making Maryland work again.”
